I already tried several other straight-through cables, all the same. When Windows opens up, it cannot find a driver for the ethernet controller. Oddly, Marvell makes some of 3Com’s chips for them, so it’s not uncommon to see Marvell and 3Com on the same chip. The cable used is standard patch CAT-5e cable supplied with cable modem.
